It depends on what style of boot you want and the terrain you'll be using them on as well as how wide your feet and ankles are. One man's meat is another's uncomfortable footwear.

I have a pair of Contour boots which are now 5 years old and still going strong, they cost around 60 quid, full leather with w'proof lining but they are only ankle height. They are made on a British last so are supremely comfy, most boots these days are built on Continental lasts which are narrower and uncomfortable for us lot.

Meindl Anarktis boots, they are fantastic, like wearing slippers!

Talking of boots, I've never understood why a pair of straight leather wellie's cost more than the complex lace up jobs like the Arktis. Talk about a rip off.

My predictive text just put s"traight leather Wullie's"!

If you find 4 pairs of decent boots for £230 share the secret with the rest of us!
If I told you it wouldn't be a secret?

In fact there is no secret' mere economics
Rather me do your market research or condemnation? (of which I will, for a small fee? )
You could start with the 'British Army'?...well there are tens of thousands that walk/run/march and yes even 'fight' in there boots?....Having been in that service for 12 years ,I can kinda call myself a bit of an expert on 'boots'!
Now , the draw back is that these boots require alot of maintenance !..but then they do get alot of work?
They don't keep your feet any dryer ,or less wet/damp than any other boot ? but they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4 times cheaper ;)
.........................................................
I was first drawn to the blackislander boot..because they advocated' that it required 'NO MAINTENANCE'!..i have since found out ,this is not the case!
I have 'personally' tried out Harkila', and found '''no advantage'' ,over any other boot on the market.

The guys that go on tour are getting issued Lowa boots
The Army are just about to change their boots http://www.army.mod.uk/news/news.aspx
Look a lot better than the issue ones.

I had that 3-4 years ago. I was getting a seriously sore knee. I eventually worked out it was my boots that were causing me to walk funny, trying to favour my foot. It got so bad that I went and bought a pair of Meindls on the recommendation of a friend before the last day of the grouse. I took them out of the box the next day, wore them in the grouse beating line all day and the problem was solved. My feet were a bit tired a the end of the day but considering I hadn't broken them in at all, they were great.

I'll put my "boot request" in to The Boss tomorrow at the same time as I put in my holiday request! :perfect:

A lot of the estates issue the Diotto boots sold by Blackislander to their staff. Several beat keepers I know sell them straight away & buy better quality boots, they just aren't a good enough boot to be walking 5 or 6 drives a day across a grouse moor.
