Many thanks
Basically it refers to minerals in the food, I will try and find an elaborate answer for you,

I think this says everything from the PFMA site

http://www.pfma.org.uk/faqs/pet-food-ingredients/
In 'Laymen' terms..It means,,, If you burnt' (ie incinerated the food you were feeding your dog, then that's what would be left ;)
So the higher the ash content, the more crap is in it!...I think?
...
When I put coal on the fire ,I have more Ash to clean out the pan, than if I burn wood! ;)
And the less 'Ash value' in the food I give the dog ?>>> gives the same result :o ....Spooky!!
Oh dear.....................

Yes Dear!.. ,,,It all adds to the flavour of confusion with food and food manufacturers, and internet sites that would have you believe what is good right and righteous!? ;)
I tried burning 'dried out tripe once'! ...There was nothing left  ...I reckon 'Paul Daniels had a hand in it!
Spookily enough, I even once (many years ago, when I was more curious) boiled a tin of Pedigree Chum', Mighty bites!....and all I got was 'Gravy'? ...Where did all the bites go?

Brilliant, thank you for that info

It now leads me to another question. What is the ideal ash content level to have in dried food?

http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/choosing- ... -food-ash/

However.................... remember the ash content is the total of all minerals, so I am not sure that the word "ideal" is the appropriate one........?
