Never flush and would wreck a pair of Dubarry's in five minutes

Which Aigles fit round the calf? The wellies I have tried flap around my calf and make me look like some bandy cowboy! Haven't tried Aigles.

I am very hard on shoes/boots, only have to try them on in the shop and it looks as if I have worn them 9 months or so! I am sure Claire has lovely feet and looks after her boots

I bought a pair of le chameau years ago at a game fair and they were brilliant. Zips died after a few years because I didn't do them up all the time. I wore them non stop for farm work and shooting etc so they really got some hammer and after nearly 5 years they gave up the ghost and split where the heel meets the sole (probably from standing on the heel to take them off).

Didn't fancy shelling out on another pair of zippy chameaus so I went with the Aigles and hated them from the off. Fitted fairly well but they seem heavy and clumpy, plus they seemed to leak from early on in the heel somehow but buggered if I can find where.

Anyway I ended up buying a pair of gusset chameaus and haven't looked back (although I do seem to actually wear my aigles a lot now for doing the dogs in the morning / evening because they sit outside the door and slip on but I wouldn't go out for any time in them)

Basically my vote is Chameau and no the zip ones, I'm a total gusset convert!!

If you want a serious pair of wellies though have a look at Dunlop Purofort Thermo. Sheep farmers in the welsh mountains swear by them and I've never seen grips like it! I will be getting a pair when I get round to it!

Hi Jelinga. Have you tried Le Chameau All Tracks Ladies? They are a more flattering shape for ladies, and I find mine really comfy, wear them all day shooting, and around at home. My first pair lasted for years, and my second pair are still going strong.

Hi Penwithian, no I haven't tried those, didn't even know they existed! There is a dearth of shops selling decent wellies, so will have a go buying online. Are they narrow or wide in the foot, I have wide feet but skinny legs!

Jelinga, I think they are quite true to size, I bought my regualr shoe size, and have room for a thickish pair of socks. I don't think my feet are particularly wide.

Thanks Penwithian, If you can put a pair of thickish socks on they will probably be alright for me without the socks
