Thank you, thank you everyone for your replies and suggestions. I agreee that vet bed would be great but - both cockers eat it!!! Not a great idea for mine and I'm terrified they will get a blockage. Think the artificial chamois is a good idea and will investigate coats although they already have the towelling sort. Thanks again.

Easidri towels great for drying wringing wet Cockers, especially after they've been hosed down.
What about a waterproof bed made to fit the box exactly? With coats on the water won't pool on top and if the bed fits exactly the little beggars won't be able to get their teeth into the corners. If not it sounds like stable matting or cow mats are the way to go. Or give them a nice piece of vet bed and a pair of muzzles...

How about a stack of newspapers under them with dog coats on the dogs. You can just whip out wet newspapers and have a clean Lintran box

I think with shredded paper you would have it in the dogs' mouths, all over the floor, sticking to the car, blowing over the garden when you get the dogs out (the shredded paper clinging to them) bits in the kennel, bits in your hair etc etc
