Aye but he could gum you to death!!

I like Springers best but do love to watch an English Setter, imo the most beautiful and graceful day of any Gundog breed anywhere.
I like a good dog of any kind to be honest.

Nope, I like a good Cocker, not so keen on pedigree sprockers though, skinny Whippety with neither a cockers or springers style but an inferior one to both.
I'd love an Allspice or a Dazzle or a Abe or a Solo, don't see many now sadly.

I'll certainly look at a cocker at some stage, when I get older and can't do the hard yards. They are lovely.

That is where I am SP. After a lifetime of hard going springers at 60+ I felt I could respectably slow down a notch. My little Cocker Fergal goes hard but with a little more common sense and with much less direction. There is no need to nag at him about range even if I choose to walk slowly and stop to admire the wildflowers. He is very much hunting with me rather than me striding to keep up with him. Also about three hours walking is about all I really enjoy anymore and he seems inclined to call it a day about the same time. I had some springers who would have just been getting into a nice hunting pace after three hours.

I think if you lived with my cocker for a weekend you'd quickly change your mind lol

For me I like all hunting dogs. My cocker is hell on wheels and very exciting to hunt behind but not a good house dog. I absolutely love English setters- they're gorgeous. But I also hunt with a lot of high level labs which I love as well. And I've deer hunted behind beagles and other hounds since I was young so they have a special place in my heart. I know my next dog will be a tough decision. Above all else I've learned from my cocker Jake that I want a dog that is easy going in the house. Although his fire is also what captivates me. I have been leaning towards a setter for a long time but 50% or more of my hunting is waterfowl so a lab would make sense. Im a bit of a control freak so in that sense a non slip retriever like a lab would probably be a good fit but I just can't get excited about a lab. I think I should look hard at a GSP as it's a better all around hunter for my mixed bag style. Plus I'd love to cut down on dog hair. Still, there's just something about a setter....
