Wonder how many "pros" pay tax on their pup sales...

I know of at least one prominent pro who got his fingers burnt.

For some time, the KC unfortunately made the decision to allow KC Silver Not Recognised as a registerable colour. Now they can still be registered, but just under Colour Not Recognised. They also allowed Charcoal Not Recognised, but changed this at some point.

Oddly, you can register the brown variety as either liver or chocolate.

I saw a rarer flatcoat than a Yellow one once....

I actually saw a good one
My flatcoat would regularly beat a Labrador out training, that belonged to a A panel FT judge. She's not just good, she's fabulous ;)

Just in response to the upwards cost of pups, you now have hip scores, elbow grades, BVA eye certs and a full range of DNA tests. Of course if you are using a similarly health tested stud dog, then they will also have had these health tests (hopefully). And where as previously, you'd use a dog you'd seen locally, you may now use a dog you've seen at the other end of the country. So lots of costs have gone up, meaning a rise in puppy prices.

I had a litter this year and priced pups are what I thought was a fair price. I saw a lot of litters with higher prices for no reason what so ever, a lot of red fox pups seem to command a high price, even if they don't look the darker shade of yellow. And the lack of health testing for top prices is ridiculous.

In Canada Silver labs are not purebred and if registered under an allowed color will be deregistered when it fails a DNA test looking to see that the dog is free of the dilution gene. This is a complaints driven test.

Silvers can still be sold as designer dogs for obscene prices.
