I believe up north where its cold and wet ;) covered a few buccleuch dogs over the last few years. most recently last year, although the litter wasnt hugely successful, only 2 survived. one owned by a member on here I think the other is still at buccleuch. A Jazz x Rob dog was 2nd in a novice test in Jan @ 19mths old.

Out of interest, how did you decide Broc. No pedigree has been put up, and they havent even started to say what the bitch is like, what she was like to train and what could be improved on.

I'm assuming that the originator of the post knows his bitch and her pedigree and has decided that the three sires he is interested in are compatible with her lines and their strengths will support her weaknesses.

Pepper is the buzz dog of the moment but first pups last year so not yet much of a track record. Albammach, seven matings and most of them 2010, so again not much to show yet. Broc has a proven record with good progeny and his own field trialling achievements surpass his sons but they have time and chances still to come of course. Time is not on Broc's side, born 2001 I think. So I would go with the good old one and give the youngsters an opportunity later.

Lochindorb (www.esspedigrees.co.uk) has all the info needed on the sires.

No it deos not, it tells you whats on paper, not what each dog is like, their style, drive and what they were like to train.
My advice would be speak to the people that actualy know these dogs and have first hand experience of them, not what someone has read about them....

i would say James has the right idea there, an the main reason pepper is the "buzz" dog, and IMHO is because DL was clever enough to make a promotional video, in which prospective customers could see the dog, obvioulsy not all, but enough to put a good idea in your head that you want to use the dog.

i think pepper might have been discarded above, because the health testing issue brought up a few times now.

You made a point, James, that no pedigrees had been put up - pedigree info on Lochindorb - no it does not tell you everything about the dog but it gives all you need of the pedigree and that is the point I was answering.
Again you made a point that nothing had been put up about the bitch, so essentially how to know which sires were suitable? And I replied that I thought the bitch owner who started the thread would know what what compatible with his/her bitch and was capable of making initial choices of sires that would complement her.

I've given a simple response (maybe not what you were expecting from me) to say a good old one, last chance to use him perhaps, rather than a younger stud who will be around for a while. Polmaise made the same point earlier in the thread by the way. You asked 'for interest' you said how I made my choice and I told you.

Do we have the breeders and trainers of these three dogs on the forum? If so, of course they would be the people to ask. But remember it is a commercial situation as the Pepper promotion video shows.

This is, however, a forum and just as you give your advice when you choose, so do I. And people can take heed of us or ignore us as they choose, again that is one of the things a forum is for.

Hi folks,
New to this site but some very interesting chats on the go.
Re-the stud dogs above I would be keen to know where the link is between the Sires and the bitch in question. I have seen Broc quite a bit and like him.(in fact a best mate of mine used him just 3 weeks ago)Pepper looks like a quality dog but if you look at his pedigree there is not much outside to tie top and bottom (outside the kenine rob link).Pepper in my view is very like his dad and a lot of what I've of broc pups are like himself. I would sway towards broc, Pepper will be around for a while. Norman is a gent and I'm sure that he will give an honest opinion on how suited the bitches pedigree is to broc.

PS-I love Springers : :!: :!:

Albammach for me. The other two are the 'wrong' colour. ;)

(OK, I'll get back to my box now)
