I've moved to the UK about a yr ago. I have a fully intact male Boykin. I've been searching for others who might have them here.

I know this is an old post but have only just seen it. Ann Taylor who owns Washbrook Farm with her husband Nigel bought in the Boykins from America (where she originated from). Her dogs have been used on Cockers & ESS (as well as her own Boykin bitches) to produce some very good gun dogs. So it is very possible that the dog you saw was a pure dog or maybe a cross. Mum was there when her owner worked there & got caught. She was a reg ESS but her pups are the spit of Cockers, it is very hard to tell them apart.

Photos are of 3 of the offspring with new owners 1 of which also has a working Cocker. They have turned into the best workers & I just wish I had kept one, so trainable & the best temperaments.

Why on earth would someone intentionally cross breed them with springers and cockers? I understand accidents (kind of) but to intentionally breed one to another is beyond me. Especially with a breed that is not common in your country. That just seems extremely irresponsible to me.

Interesting post A Boykin Spaniel is still quite rare in the UK, mainly because it originated in the US and imports are limited due to breeding lines and regulations. Because of that, sightings in England are uncommon, and sometimes dogs with similar looks or working spaniels may be mistaken for one. It’s also possible the article used “Boykin” loosely rather than strictly following breed standards. If anyone has seen that specific dog, it would definitely be an unusual case worth clarifying.
