PG I didn't ask for examples of cruelty I just wondered what made them hard to re socialise or re train. or is the cocker the only dog to hold a grudge?

That dog changed my mind about the breed, I've seen some good ones at work since, I hope that i might find a place in my team for one sometime soon, if the cockers approve of course ;) ;)

They aint your average breed they are little humans that are NOT dog dogs they are human dog s and are so sensitive to the way they are handled!
I don't want a little human, I want a dog that is a dog cocker or not. If cockers were human I wouldn't want one. Not too sure about the sensitive bit either. Most viszlas are far more sensitive in nature than a cocker.

Sorry but thats where you will never make a trainer as the majority of cocker owners dont see your way of thinking im afraid :-D And Viszla's the majority of them now being bred are pets sadly :-D

I helped MTS and his good lady run the scurry at the Jim Newby event. I have to say that it was a revelation. Most of the labs (including open FT dogs) just hunted by eye and had to be handled right onto the dummies in the brash. The goldies seemed to use their noses much better. There were three very fast labs, but in general I would say that the goldies were faster and smarter.

My goodness.... Wullie when you were you last invited to show your skills with numerous breeds of working dogs in a public arena... . Bearing in mind drifts is not full of 'real' gun dog handlers!!! Pip Williams has made up numerous Dogs of varying breeds

Pink gun dog. The reason Goldies aren't the easiest to train is not because they aren't the brightest... It's actually the opposite. Too much of a brain for the basic Labrador trainer. But yes let's hope not everyone thinks to rush out and get a golden, blood sweat and tears required to train a non robotic goldie,

Fluffy toys.... One of the black labs in the demo ..Brave.... On Friday was retrieving fluffy ducks in a green mat in the middle of a public arena. And today was 3rd in the Moray Firth open working test.

And as for Secret, in the ' real' field this wee cocker us a joy to watch working

So Wullie... When you selling tickets for your demo?

madrags, just curious but are you of the opinion the dogs (labs) would have found if left alone or had the training been to far progressed.

Or could it just have been that scenting conditions favoured the Goldens?
