I'm really enjoying this thread and learning a bit more about my boys ancestors!

Please could someone explain eye wiping? I think of it as something you do when a horse/dog has a runny eye!

My all time favourite was Sport of Roffey

Sport won the Champs in 1975 and 1976 and, considering this achievement, was used very sparingly at stud with only about 40 progeny KC Reg up to 1981. Keith Erlander says of him 'A spectacular dog. Very well handled and brought to high peak of fitness. A light-eyed dog, which only sired one novice stake winner.' This from Erlander is praise indeed, (he didn't like light-eyed dogs) and with so few offspring, just the one winner is perhaps understandable. But there is a line from him still around, Sport is way back obviously.

Sport's stud career was curtailed because it was found that he carried a genetic fault. Any dog that Lawton Evans turned out was worth looking at.

Talking about genetic faults reminds me of another all time favourite, Spotty of Posterngate. He was handled by a real character called Doc White. A great dog but only bred from once, I think, because he carried a genetic skin disorder.

My previous Springer was a Great-Great Grandson of Sport of Roffey! I didn't know that he was a FTCH.

But keeping the thread on track as dawnrazor mentioned in another thread, misselchalke lad of halaze won 7 opens, 4th at champs and coms at all others. And one or two diplomas in the IKC too.
One of his best runs was an eye wipe on a runner woodcock. The other dog failed to take a line and worked in a normal pattern but still failed to find the line. Lad was sent, straight out. Got on the line, flushed another woodcock, which was his flush, pushed back and picked up the line again. There is a slow motion replay as he catches the bird 6ft in the air over a stream. I believe martin dealy was commentator and he got quite excited!!
I can't recall but I think it was catelylane predator he eye wiped,the last time that dog ran unfortunately to sad circumstances. However I am open to correction on the above
