Re: Overcoming Nerves
Thanks everyone- I really appreciate all the advice. I'm pleased to say my nerves were A LOT better than last time yesterday - but we were very out-classed. However, the thing I really worried about, he did absolutely spot on- nailed the blinds like they were easy marks, but the least of my worries turned out to be the biggest problem.
You live and learn.
Now, does anyone want to point me in the direction of some decent training days coming up in the South West, for the puprose of carrying out James's advice? Am going to Nick Gregorys for a partridge day early Sept, but more pointers would be appreciated. Does Terry Steadman (I think it was?) still do those good days on game?

Probably worth pinging Terry a message on FB. I'm sure I saw something earlier in the year about his training days.
I went to one last year, without pup, to watch and learn. Great ground, really nice folk (handlers and Guns alike).

We've got our first novice working test on Sunday, keep getting nerve twangs now, but very much looking forward to it, just hope I don't let her down.

I think some sign of nerves is not a bad thing - once you start the task in hand because you have trained for it you just get on with it as its a natural process for you. I have found using NLP helped me massively when I was doing dressage at a decent level - if you find its really stressful maybe worth a try.

NLP? I had reiki the day before the last big stressful thing I had to do, and although I'm very skeptical about that sort of new-age stuff in general, it did seem to help.RedWC wrote:I think some sign of nerves is not a bad thing - once you start the task in hand because you have trained for it you just get on with it as its a natural process for you. Alice, I haven't been on any of their training days so can't comment on them but have a look at Stavordale on facebook.Alice wrote:Thanks everyone- I really appreciate all the advice. They organize walked up training days regularly and have trainers such as Mark and Jamie Bettinson, Keith Broomfield and Annie Buckley.
They're based in Bruton and most of the days seem to be in the Southwest or South Wales.

Hi, I'm in contact with Mike already - I think their days are retriever-orientated, though he has contacted me about using their ground with a group of other spaniel handlers if I wanted.Geoffer wrote:Alice, I haven't been on any of their training days so can't comment on them but have a look at Stavordale on facebook.Alice wrote:Thanks everyone- I really appreciate all the advice.
