My maths may be a bit wrong in the above post but my understanding is statistically

affected mated to affected will produce all affected

affected mated to clear will produce all carriers

clear mated to clear will produce all clears

carrier to clear - mixture of carriers and clears

affected to carrier - mixture of carriers and affected

carrier to carrier mixture of affected, carrier and clears

I think that is right but happy for someone who had done genetics more recently to tell me I am wrong

As I understand it Carrier X Clear can produce 100% carrier, 100% clear or any mixture of the two conditions

And clear carriers allow others to see how many bottles of wine you bought.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

But you have to look at how many progeny an untested stud produces - and how many are then DNA tested for PRA Cord 1.
At the moment, with untested ESS, studs are producing hundreds of progeny without even a BVA Eyetest.

I too am considering Hellraiser for one of my Clear bitches - but as she is DNA Clear I can go to any stud, regardless of his unknown status

Statisically you are right,
Clear to Clear pups 100% Clear
Clear to Carrier, 50% Carrier and 50% Clear
Carrier to Carrier, 25% Clear, 50% Carrier 25% Affected
Affected to Carrier 75 % Affected 25 % Carrier
Affected to Affected 100% Affected

But that is statistics and every litter is different.

Why do people go to untested studs with untested bitches?

Because they have seen the dog for what it can do in the Feilds and its caught there eye so why not use it.If its health test all well and good if its not its not the end of the world

Ian Bateson had a Black and White dog at a novice stake last week, unfortunately it moved on its second run but what a good dog, good size, hit the brambles and was about the only dog I'd have taken that day, Robinsmoor Kita.
