American Cocker retrieving

Post by James »

As for the video of him hunting some good cover with game, I for one would love to see it so if you have one that would fantastic thanks.
If it was easy it wouldn't be so much fun.

my godness me you have all been busy bees while Ive been out training my dog you have all been discussing us LOL Id best answer all your questions or at least try too... It was a Blind retreive, I only line up and use the word "back" on blind retreives... he was also handled onto it with a left hand "back" as the wind was coming from the right and pushing the scent cone away from him...if it had been a marked retreive I would not have lined him up as this would have taken his attention and may have broken his mark I would have only released him using his name as the command. Hope this answers your question and what made it all the better for me, it was an eyewipe that one of Roberts own young Labs had already attempted. I will relish in that one :) as that will prob never happen again LOL... Terry its not about getting the dummy... its about HOW you get the dummy!!! :D you prob know that one too then ;) He is a gentleman you got that right

Pam,

I think you have been caught in a bit of cross fire, sorry about that! Polmaise has a bit of a history on this forum hence the rather odd tone of this thread. Its unfortunate that he still seems able to influence the tone even though he is no longer a member.

All credit to you for getting a minor breed dog to that level, its not easy. Good luck with the shoot next week and don't forget to tell us all about it.

Thank you Judy

with it being my first post, my first dog to train in the field and with the added pressure of having a breed of dog that many either dont know what it is or one that I get blatantly laughed at for even attempting to train to work in the field then yes I did feel slightly targeted...BUT Im a big girl tho I can handle it :) I am training an American cocker to work so I have to be thick skinned lol... As for Polmaise he is the reason that I, and im sure many other people now have Gun dogs and not just pet dogs.. (using the words of another) I dont really know what happened on here but I do know that he speaks his mind and I for one am grateful of that, some people maybe are not able to accept that. I have nothing but respect for him... I have worked bloody hard getting my dog to where he is now but Robert has worked bloody hard training me! and answering my relentless questions

Me and the dog still have much to learn and I hope that being on here will not only help me in some way but also promote American Cocker Spaniels..starting with Gumbo well thats the plan anyway ...

Well at least you won't have people holler "go home with the ugly poodle" when you arrive. Us minor breed owners just have to be tough. :-D Good luck and i look forward to reading more about your adventures!
