:o Oh dear !

Springfield pointers you have mis understood my post ;) Perhaps My post was not particularly clear and I apologise for that ;)

I was not for one min suggesting using an electric collar for chewing a tv remote

NO! No! No! I ment that is when I have had the inevitable moment of handler frustration and the :cursing: , as we all do, when the dog does something undersirable, sort of thing happens .

I am no angel, I am just like everyone else, I have times where I can feel my temper rising but i tend to walk away .

I just I dont agree with using these electric collars unless there is a really, really serious problem ( Rattle snake aversion or sheep chasing ) but even then I think it needs to be very very carefully used . They are not a magic wand

It is a tool in the tool box but one that has the very real potential to produce unwanted results and one that has the potential to hurt your dog.

I agree, at the very least they should be factory limited .

Cathy, I am a very responsible dog lover, importer, breeder, and trainer for decades.
But we have allowed the bad nuts to exist by not verbally confronting them, so this is the consequence, and dog parks are a compromise.
My dogs are always leashed except for field training when a check cord is not required.
I don't allow my other grand kids to hit or pull my dogs ears or legs.
Running loose makes for quicker and shorter exercise period, but there are other ways.
There are also bad nuts using dog parks that don't allow aggressive dogs, sick dogs or bitches in heat.
I only use them on rare occasions and my dogs are always on leash outside the dog park, as well as inside regular parks.
In Canada the current parks problem is from Canada Goose goo fouling the grass.

PrairieBoy (and farmboy), more evidence that it ain't just the cousins from Blighty or the land o' the braes who don't quite get the concept of training with the e-collar: http://gundogforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=45538

Wisdom abounds on the internet, huh M.G. :brickwall:
S.P. where/how did you learn the proper way to use/condition a dog with the e-collar?

One could point out the flaws in any training technique to the uneducated masses.

Clickers! I think all clickers should be banned! I have been told that some people will click these unnatural things at their dogs ( inches from their sweet little faces) and try to make them do things they don't want to do!!! To add insult to injury, these cruel people even use fating treats to bribe the dog further causing many to become overweight. Many of these cruel acts take place while a loose fitting "noose" type restraint called a "slip lead" is on the dog! It has been reported that the real danger in using "clickers" is many "trainers" while using this method may become so irate at the whole process that they may "throw" the clicker sometimes hitting the dog or innocent by-standers,occasionally hurting themselves! This must stop! It is to easy to just push a "button" on a clicker!

:-D Hey I am just saying.

I can hardly believe anyone would be stupid enough to fry a dog for a show of aggression towards another dog. I can also hardly believe the replies he got as answers to the question.
Eventually e-collars will be banned over all of Britain partly thanks to people like this , partly due to know-nothing know-alls and partly due to the politicians who pander to the "wants" of a public with next to no knowledge of what they want to ban.

I have to agree with Wullie, with a thread like that what more ammunition could those calling for a ban ask for.

I have never used an e-collar so am not in a position to give an informed opinion one way or another.

However if I had to choose between my dog wearing an e-collar or being shot by a farmer for worrying livestock I know which I would choose.
