Very interesting read both the link and the responses throughout the thread. I shall refrain from any suggestions or thoughts primarily because of the cultural differences between your spaniel culture and ours here in the states. We all love our spaniels and running and hunting styles should not tare us apart. Your discussion reminds me of the discussions we have here about what makes a great dog and what judges are looking for.

Tis the same the World over! :-D When you compete you are paying for a Judge's opinion whether it be Tests, Trials or Shows.

It occurs to me that the K.C. didn't just come up with this "new" stuff without being prompted by field trial judges to do it. If that is the case I wonder which judges on their advisory panel pushed for this "guidance ?"

Hell, Wullie, you've lost me now. What new stuff are you talking about? The sticking to the letter of the regs stuff or something different?

That's why I put the italics around the "new" Naj . There is nothing new there but it seems some "new" field trial judges haven't read the regs in the same way as others. They needed reminding .
It is noticeable however that the reminder to the judges does not include the words " pointing should be regarded as an extra excellence !"
