Note to self, it is Mr Dawnrazor or perhaps simply Sir from here on in with an arsenal like that :-D

Me and my mate Barry, now dead :(, got stopped one early morning in Derbyshire when I was a beat keeper there, the young policeman, arv so he should've known a bit about guns, got out the car with his sub machine gun slung across his front giving it all "Billy big bollox", he told is not to get out the land rover and keep our hands where he could see them, "who are you?" he asked, "the keeper" I said, "Gamekeeper?" he asked, "aye", "what are you doing out at this time in the morning?", I'm shouting out of the land rover window with my hands on the top of the steering wheel during this, "lamping foxes" I said, he walked back and was asking the other copper in the car questions, "are you armed?" came the question, "aye" said I, "what with?" was the young coppers question, "we've got a. 243, a.223, a 9 shot semi auto 12 bore two. 22's and pistol" was my reply, well, the blood drained from his face, he backed off bloody quickly and was frantically asking his pal what two hillbilly were doing in the middle of nowhere at half two in the morning with such a collection of weaponry??!!!

I'm surprised. I thought the UK had more restrictive gun laws than that?

I was stopped in 1990 at a road block near Milford on Cannock Chase after the IRA attempted to assassinate the ex governor of Gilbraltar, it was pretty early in the morning as I was going to a keeper friend's in Wales and had to be there for breakfast and woe betide you if you were late!! They got a bit twitchy when I told them I had a shotgun in the car but relaxed when they saw the springers in the back and sent me on my way with a relieved wave.

I had a small run-in with the police on the outskirts of Edinburgh. My tax disc came off and fell onto the floor just as I went round a roundabout next to a police car. The police stopped my car and began asking questions. They were forced to believe I did have a tax disc but were still babbling on about the law stating that it must be properly displayed . Then they saw the gundog gear and asked if I did any shooting. I said I did so they then wanted to see my shotgun certificate .

I explained that since the shotgun wasn't with me neither was the certificate. Between the questions they circled my car (second hand and dirty) like vultures waiting for the right moment to begin feeding. Then one of the polis asked if I knew a Mr. *. ************ who also went shooting and had gundogs and I said that I did know him as I'd helped him train his gundog. To this I added that I didn't like him one little bit coz he was a bit of a shit !

The man was their Chief of Police or some such similar title and the polis agreed with my description of him and laughed as they waved me on ! It just goes to show , it's not what you know it's who you know .........in the right sort of way ! :lol:

Once upon a time there was a topic here but it's difficult to find... :? Later on when I have a few moments I'll split it and some posts may disappear before your very eyes...

Aw spoiltsport, there's only one page of off topic stuff (DR's fault) and the topic was done to death apart from Rab not enlightening us with an explanation of his last comment;
