The just get after her, run after her, catch her and lift her up and bring her back to the place she should have responded. Repeat the command. Stop and recall fall to bits when the dog thinks you are stuck in one place.

Agree with the above process

If she's a soft dog as you mentioned when you get out after her she will most probably stop and go submissive as appose to running on

Yes correct that is exactly what she does.

Why put you and the dog under pressure when neither of you are ready? If she's not steady when hunting with no game about then she certainly isn't going to be when there is. And if you intend to go down the 'running the dog down' route, remember it's not always possible in heavy cover...

Sorry to be a party pooper  but I don't agree with the 'just take her and enjoy it' advise because you probably won't be 'enjoying' it for very long...Put the hard yards in get her properly trained and understanding what it is you expect of her and then take her and have a dog you can trust, truly enjoy and be proud of. Not one you let loose at one end of the drive and hope you meet up again at the end of it...

What's the rush, nothing to stop you going without the dog and finding out what it's all about first is there?

Flamin Eck, so many conflicting opinions.
I fully understand what you mean but the consensus of opinion seems to be a "suck it and see" !!!

This is why a made my earlier posts. ;) This dog isn't trained enough to respond under distraction of game, so if you intend training her on the job it will require a lot of pressure & could easily end up spoiling your day.

ps. I cross posted with Rascal but am of the same sentiment.

And I thought I was a lone voice in the wilderness when I said leave the dog at home way back on page 2 of this thread. Go, find out how to beat, what the cover is like, whether its feasible to keep the dog on lead all day, where you can and can't go and what the standard is amongst the other dogs. The last thing you want to be doing is chasing your dog into the flushing point at the start of the drive, its bad enough at the end!

What a bunch of pessimists ! Think of the glass as being half full instead of half empty and have a bloomin' good slurp at it. The O.P. has a lead and there is nuffin wrong with using it if things get a bit too hot.
