You weren't best pleased then, Dave?

We have stayed at home for several years because we had a firework phobic Flatcoat, she was just 4 months old when the neighbours let off a succession of scream and bang fireworks in their back garden. Poor little mite was outside having a pee at the time, she hit the back door about halfway up in her desire to get away from it. She's now 9 and just lies growling her head off at them. :) We went out last night and they all seemed fine when we got back so thats was good. Luckily the Cockers don't give a monkeys.

Mum rang tonight in tears!

She had heard on the news that a dog and bitch lurcher type had been hung from a bridge. They were discovered by a motorist who couldn't get across the bridge due to the rope.

I cannot even begin to say how this makes me feel and what I would do to the perpetrators if I got hold of them....

What a sad start to the new year.

There is already a facebook group dedicated to finding the culprits of this despicable act which is how I read about it earlier today. I made the mistake of clicking on the link for it and it takes you to the Mirror (newspaper) where they covered the story and shows the photo of the poor dogs hanging from the bridge. I was nearly sick - warning if anyone else looks (which I really wouldn't recommend), it is really upsetting. Apparently they have released the picture in the hope it will help catch the people who did it - not sure how though.

Hope they catch the evil bastards :brickwall: :brickwall:

This is my first rant.

The bloody RSPCA. What a pointless waste of time they are.

I called them as the nasty evil male swan on the canal where I live decided to drown his own mate and then proceeded to break the wing of one of last years cygnets and attempt to drown that too. Yes no problem we will send someone out. Great. I waited from 9 am till 2.30 pm not a problem I know they are busy.

Well Ms jumped up wanna be, failed copper up your own butress RSPCA lady turned up. Full of gob and attitude. ' i suppose you think I havent got better thing s to do'- er no.' Has his swan been shot I see you are wearing a shooting coat?'- no its bloody freezing. I asked her if she wanted me to feed it some bread while she caught it with a pole- no I can manage just let me do my job- errrr ok.

She eventually catches it so I asked her what I should do with the dead bird- we do not have the funds to take it away and this bird I have just caught will get taken somewhere else and released we will not pay for it to recieve treatment :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:

So what in gods name do people donate money for?

So she spun her wanna be coppers van round and shoved an envelope at me as she wanted a donation.!!!!!!!

When you do decide to do what you are supposed to do lets hope you manage to prosecute the evil swines who think its a good idea to hang dogs.

Oooh! Don't get me started, Bellypig!

Sadly, if they catch the culprits I am sure there will be mitigating circumstances (health issues, drugs, marital break-up, etc, etc.) and it will be a suspended sentence and a ban on keeping animals. My retribution would also involve suspension but not of the prison related kind!

I had a similar experience when calling out the RSPCA to help catch a pet rabbit that was playing chicken with the cars in our road. (I might be a hunting, shooting and fishing gal but I don't like to see any animal stressed or suffering). The RSPCA failed to turn out and it was only thanks to a concerted neighbourhood effort that the bunny was reunited with its young owner. It makes me mad that they portray themselves as rushing to the rescue of every fledgling falling out of its nest.

I think most humane people would support the idea of an organisation that promoted responsible animal welfare and prosecuted those guilty of abuse but in targeting those within the hunting and shooting communities with their vitriol, they are guilty of alienating those people most passionate about animal welfare and conservation (accepting there will always be exceptions to every rule and generalisation). Unfortunately, public perception although turning, still favours the RSPCA over country sports enthusiasts.

However p%^**#d off we get, we should always remember that we are ambassadors for our sports and well done you Bellypig for taking the right course of action and keeping your cool.

Right, breathing deeply and stepping off the soapbox now..... :-D

Hmm, while you mention birds, shouldn't they be the domain of the RSPB?

I have to say, the SSPCA inspectors I've had dealings with around here have been absolutely fine. Curteous, helpful and they use their judgement to come to a sensible decision. Doesn't mean to say that I agree with all the organisations policies, but as people and human beings, I can't fault the inspectors.

I havent had a lot of time for them since an elderly friend wanted to rehome a collie from one of their centres, she was an ex sheep farmer so knew what she was taking on - RSPCA wouldnt rehome to her because the dog would be kenneled at night :? A few years later I went looking for a gun dog and again they wouldnt rehome to a working home :-| And they wonder why their rehoming centres are always so full !
