this is a clip taken today of my show bred american cocker who as you can see here is capable of working in the field he has been shown at crufts and various other championship shows all over the country winning best of breed and various classes he is now ready to work his first shooting season starting next Thursday!... I have been training for this for the last 18 months and he is now ready. There are many people who doubt very much that the american cocker is capable of a full days work but let me reasure you that this is not the case... hope you can see and enjoy my clip :-D
I bet you wonder why you bothered! :-D

Its a training forum where people offer advice from their own experience.

The point at which the dog veers off line is where you should stop and redirect. :) Better that than letting a young dog hunt around in an area where he may not find and will lose confidence, hence him starting to return without the dummy. Pretty good stop on the whistle though.

Or, Pam could have sent it to the left of the bush & it would have been bang on the money. :-D

I asked about hunting cover in the first place, and at no point did I ask for thick cover. I simply wanted to see how this dog handled hunting cover full stop. Ive seen plenty of minor breeds and to this day they have all proved just why they are minor breeds today. Now if this little dog can handle and hunt cover properly then that would be impressive to me rather than simply sending a dog to fetch a dummy.
I dont mean to be rude and if I was you would know (actualy you might not because it would get removed lol) a gundog isn't something that plays fetch, its one that can do all aspects of what is needed on a days shooting well for me anyway and as for the talk of trials I think my wanting to see it hunt is even more relevant.

Would that have been with a right handed or left cast then? It was an American style cast the dog was sent with I noticed i.e. the hand straight over the centre of the dogs head...

Enjoy working him Pam.... I'm sure you'll have a good season..... :-D

Your right there I certainly wont bother again if this is what you get... for all those on here who have been supportive I thank you..everyone has to start somewhere.. I didnt claim that is was nothing more than a simple retreive it was just one that I was pretty proud of.. to the rest I hope to have such perfect dogs as yours and be as great handlers as you all as you obviously have nothing left to learn, you seem to know it all all ready, May all your Labs Springers and Cockers work well for you and not be distracted by the minor breeds :brickwall: :( Oh and all of those who asked and asked about whether is was a blind marked or memory retreive once I told you it was a blind not one of yous even commented on it.. you just all picked fault with something else or started on about hunting,.... this thread wasnt about hunting!!! Where can I watch videos of all your dogs being cast out on blinds are there any on this forum??hm I doubt it

No, that would have taken the dog even further away from the dummy. The dummy was more or less in line with the bushes - if the dog had stayed on original line that scraped past them, the dog would have do it in a oner.

It's the little things that make a big difference.
