Re: Brexit? Leave or Remain?
Things dipped then recovered all in one day, we aren't out of Europe. Nobody can move us to a new continent, we are just pulling back from their union that is failing more and more every year. Time to grow some and see what we can do on our own, it can't be much worst imo.
If it was easy it wouldn't be so much fun.

How bad has it been ?

As far as I've heard, csj dog, federal bullets and rc cartridges haven't went up in price so it can't be that bad!pontbeck wrote:How bad has it been ?

Good to hear

Things certainly didn't "recover all in one day". The pound remains weak against the Euro, which is a false measure as the Euro has weakened against the dollar and other currencies. The stock market has fallen, the "dead cat bounce" has been experienced to some degree. Hopefully the contingency plans undoubtedly coming off the shelves from BofE, and mainstream investors will swing into play with some force and minimise the long term economic impact.James wrote:Things dipped then recovered all in one day, we aren't out of Europe. We collectively have no idea how this move will be viewed by the investment markets and their willingness to invest in, and throughout, the UK.
Personally, I think the long term outlook is probably pretty good. Once political regimes stabilise and regulation, funding and central government expenditure requirements are quantified the country's economy could and should strengthen.
The myth that leaving the EU will solve "THE" immigration, or more precisely, migration, issue is a fallacy. Look at Switzerland, not in the EU but still battles an immigration issue.
The biggest issue is that we are coming out of a recession the like of which most people of working age will never have experienced, and there is now a probability the "Out" vote will set us back. I hope I am wrong, it has been a tortouros decade (or as near as makes no odds) and I could do without another one. But that is, in the grand scheme of things, a short term view.
The longer term outlook must be more positive and with a following wind and a bit of hope I am completely wrong and we will go from strength to strength immediately.... I doubt it though.
And as for a second Scottish referendum, Nicola Sturgeon's words today were very, very carefully chosen with the "will of the Parliament" being cited three or four times. If it happens, and I don't think it will, then a second "No" vote would seem to me to be a racing certainty; the only thing that the Scottish majority wanting to remain in Europe demonstrated yesterday was the recognition that a union is not a bad thing.

Just heard on the news that the FTSE finished the week higher than the start of the week.

Oh god. There's a new word doing the rounds.
"Begretter": Someone who voted 'leave' and is now regretful.
Already talk of a second Brexit vote. If they do that, then I suggest "the best of three". I mean what if it's 1/1?

A Prime Minister resigned. The £ plummeted. The FTSE 100 lost significant ground. But then the £ rallied past February levels, and the FTSE closed on a weekly high: 2.4% up on last Friday, its best performance in 4 months. President Obama decided we wouldn't be at the 'back of the queue' after all and that our 'special relationship' was still strong. The French President confirmed the Le Touquet agreement would stay in place. The President of the European Commission stated Brexit negations would be 'orderly' and stressed the UK would continue to be a 'close partner' of the EU. A big bank denied reports it would shift 2,000 staff overseas. The CBI, vehemently anti-Brexit during the referendum campaign, stated British business was resilient and would adapt. Several countries outside the EU stated they wished to begin bi-lateral trade talks with the UK immediately. If this was the predicted apocalypse, well, it was a very British one. It was all over by teatime. Not a bad first day of freedom.

In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.
