Neighbour's chickens!! Opened my front door to speak to someone today, dogs greeted them and then the youngster stares over the road. I look where she is pointing fully expecting to see the local wild duck population, yes, they were there but had been joined by a neighbour's two hens!!  I called the dogs in quickly and shut the front door. I mean there's free range and there's plain stupid.... We have lots of dogs up and down the road at that time of day any one of which might have given a hen a run for its money, including mine, maybe, if I hadn't been paying attention or my dog had been a year or so younger and less well trained. Wonder why people let their hens loose in a built up area unfenced garden with all open plan frontages, a good fox population and lots of semi trained dogs about.

I know a hobby farmer who couldnt bring herself to put her chickens out of their misery when they were old and ill so left them out for the fox  was OK until omne morning she came out to find the remains scattered all over her doorstep  Now she gets a neighbour to come in and dispatch them.
