which game fair would that be?

As a handler, its impossible to make your dog perform better than it is, but very easy to make it perform far worse.

Aye, but maybe its possible for Martin to run a couple of workshops whilst he's in the UK? Venue locations would depend on interest? Maybe one in England and one in Scotland?

Of course, Martins availability (and willingness to do it?!), venues, definate committment from the required minimum number of participants, transport and accomodation for Martin would all have to be sorted, but quite do-able I am sure?

???? :-D :-D

I have not been on the site for a while - but this must have been one of the best threads i have ever read.

If Martin was up for taking a workshop when over here i for one would be interested in attending.

One of the biggest problems I have as a trainer is not reading the natural surroundings well enough to anticipate the dog is about to go wrong. By the time i am aware of the error the dog may well have become too focussed on that which 'I' don't want so a method of calmly saying 'Hey' that it 'hears' really appeals.

I have in the past watched several training videos of people using E collars and have always been severely underwhelmed by the results they achieved.

One last question - when i damaged my knee some years ago I went for a course of physiotherapy. Part of the session was always taken up by me being connected to a TENS machine and the muscles stimulated electrically to aid the healing process. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcutan ... timulation i just wonder how different E collar stimulation is to this
Refining approximation.

Very much working on the same principle as the Tens unit and just as controllable. The stimulation contracts the muscle and releases it providing a tapping, tingling and up to Ouch sensation depending upon the level. The feeling is dependent upon the level of the stimulation, the ways the electricity is delivered, resistance of the contact areas, and of course the sensation interpretation by the person feeling it.

I have run a few two and three day workshops in Mid Sussex with some friends when I come over for yes, the CLA Game Fair, so not adverse to it at all. These workshops have been mainly gun dog training using all approaches but I have demonstrated and used the e-collar on occasions. Providing they are not banned in the country then i am pleased to run a workshop. All finance and time permitting.

Come on Wullie. Scotland to Warwickshire is a short trip!! Hey, you could all come to Florida. Let the family go to Disney while we have more fun working dogs. Cool 75 here today.

And you are right about training. It is best to read what the dog is going to do before he does it. Reading your dog is paramount. But also so is putting him in a position and working him in a way that he can only really do right, is equally important. Then you can show pleasure rather than constantly thinking you will need to correct. Take training in small progressive steps, not big strides. Put him in positions of increasing challenge and temptation - small steps again and learn to read what he tells you with his actions. It will come with experience for both of you.

Hmmmmm ! It would be good to have a forum get together down in Sassenach country . It's been a long time since I last invaded Englandshire ! :49:

 Is the whisky any good doon there :?: Would I need to bring a carry oot :?:

Florida sounds even better though - I could take Charlie and let him reduce the alligator population ! :60:

Mid Sussex is just fine for me
How many would you need for a session - perhaps Martin you could pm me the costs - i know several who should come along.

Bill - not six miles from here there is a specialist whisky shop - http://www.hutcheson-whisky.co.uk/ and then the other way is a 'pub of the year' not to mention some lovely bits of training ground and even some water.

I hope we can give folks who have posted here the first shot to 'sign-up' before inviting others?
