Re: Badgercourt lines
As I stated earlier, I like big, hard hunting dogs that will smash cover for fun. My first springer was a present from the friends that bred him (and I had no intention of working him, but he did!). My next two are half-brothers, chosen because their breeder likes the same sort of dogs that I do. I did not choose them by pedigree, but their pedigrees do show a fair bit of Badgercourt/Bricksclose. Most trials dogs that I have seen seem very light-boned and I have not seen any recent trials winners that would be the kind of dog that I like - perhaps others could advise.
Inside every springer, no matter how well trained, is an idiot trying to get out

I think that everyone has a "Spaniel type" that they like and these are reflected in different lines bred by people to that type. There is no right or wrong type its what ever floats your boat.But-Polmaise wrote:Now theres a very good pointliverandwhite wrote:When did badgercourt become badgercourt? Did they just fall out of the sky?. Peter got his first dog ,badgercourt susan, off keith erlandson. So is this really a badgercourt dog?. When mated to rxtex rex she produced badgercourt dusty, which peter later told a friend was the best animal he had ever owned, so was this the mystical badgercourt dog?. Some actually praise the lines they want to hate by not looking into things. When did a "old line" turn into a "new line"?. Some praise this old stuff and slag the new stuff when really its just the same stuff !.
Look at the 1995 Championship and the 2011 and I think that there is a marked difference in the spaniels.1995 seemed to have much larger built spaniels not as fast on the ground as todays dogs.Personally I rather the Badgercourt Moss/Redhead Riley/Trebornal Tact/Warlord/Stedroc's/Misslechalke-Halaze /Cressset Tiny Seal/Cortman Lane,Garry
I think that dogs today are over judged on speed..............and I dont think that dogs are tested enough in hard tough cover.........and all rough shooting dogs should be tested in water and not the shity little water retrieves(10ft in and outs-across 50fts with a bit of handling and trust required)the spaniel should judged as the true all rounder.............I also think that it would be more reflective of the man + dog partnership if the handler shot and guns were a backup................but thats just my taste.
I also think that the KC should stick to registering hairdressers show dogs and fa**ny lick*rs and that working gundog trials should be run by a independent Working Gundog Organisation dedicated to the improvement of working dogs(not dragging on the coat tails of inferior show animals) but that just me.
AHHHHH Thats better.........

Re: Badgercourt lines
What a contribution from everyone from my initial enquiry! - Thanks.
You'll all cry when I say that I have found a pup but is n't exactly what I was looking for but I was too tempted to say no!
I am going to Norfolk in 3 weeks to pick up a black and white dog pup off Ron Loomes (thanks Lewis for suggesting his stud).
The pup is sired by a dog which Ron will be running this year who is by his previous stud dog Parkbreck Agnen and out of FTCh Hattonswood Wren. The pup is out of Ron's champion bitch Melchbourne Melle who is by FTCh Clarburgh Art and out of FTCh Polopit Patsy.
Like I said not exactly what I was looking for but I've had a deliberated think and gone for it anyway.
Cheers
Jonathan

Gives you an excuse to buy what you really want as well, if you can find it.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Re: Badgercourt lines
My uncle has strong badgercourt bloodlines in his working springers, strong and hard hunting he reckons, good noses and go all day.
Badgercourt Druid and his son Cortman lane figure in many pedigrees, Druid sired over 15 FTWs and several Chs.
Many people recognise the Badgercourt head and style in working dogs.

i think the problem lies in dogs being bred to close, the same sires popping up 3/4 times in the same pedigree..

Re: Badgercourt lines
I have the other stance on this, I prefer lines to be bred close, its personal preference but I prefer to see breeding where there is a likeness in pedigree not just a jumble?paul spaniel wrote:i think the problem lies in dogs being bred to close, the same sires popping up 3/4 times in the same pedigree..
On another note this has been a great thread,

I agree-I have really enjoyed the debate.rickyspringer wrote:I have the other stance on this, I prefer lines to be bred close, its personal preference but I prefer to see breeding where there is a likeness in pedigree not just a jumble?paul spaniel wrote:i think the problem lies in dogs being bred to close, the same sires popping up 3/4 times in the same pedigree..

Have to admit that I'm a line breeding fan-If you like a dog in a line and want to try and recreate something similar you need that dog/bitch appearing top and bottom on pedigree to increase your odds in the lottery of breeding.
