Muck Boots
Hi all,
I have just bought myself some Muck boots, the Tay Sprort versions. Does/have anyone used these boots, seen some good reviews, and wearing them for the first time This Saturday.

Re: Muck Boots
I have had 3 pairs of similar. 2x Muck boots and 1x Grubb boots. They are exactly, the same - different companies but same manufacturing plant in China, just a different badge.
They are very warm and comfortable, BUT they have a flaw!
The sole wears out very quickly. Within a year I was slipping on steep, wet grass and an inspection of the sole showed it had worn down about 50% at which stage they became useless.
Also, the pair of Grubb boots (the 'stalker model' with the Vibram soles), split above the sole on the side of the boot where the boot bends/flexes when walking. This happened within 3 months of purchase and I took them back to the shop and got my money back.
So, they are a nice idea and are as warm as toast but are'nt up to hard use. Keep your receipt!
Cheers, Terry

Re: Muck Boots
Only problem I have is that the neoprene on two pairs I have owned have succumbed to thorns/brambles and ripped

Re: Muck Boots
I have thought about the Neoprene issue, as a few people wrote about that on there review, Terry, i plan on maily using these for beating, so mainly soft ground, did you find they wear quicker on tarmac, or all conditions??

Re: Muck Boots
Matt, In fairness, I used them practically every day and often on stoney/rocky ground. When the Muck ones wore prematurely, I went for the more expensive Grubb Stalker which has a vibram mountain boot sole but as I say, the upper cracked within a few months. I like wellies and wear them most of the time - other folks prefer boots and only wear wellies when conditions dictate - for them, they will last a good deal longer.
In their favour, cold feet, even in bitter conditions were a thing of the past!
Cheers, Terry
EDIT - It wasnt the neoprene which cracked but the harder plastic/rubber on the upper near the edge of the sole.

Re: Muck Boots
I've got Muck boots and I like them but I wear leather boots or cheap wellies from Screw -Fix most of the time. I find Muck boots to be a little bit heavy.

Re: Muck Boots
I have found these brilliant. Never had cold feet standing picking up or while out fowling over last 2 winters I've watched the decoys freeze in the water hands cold but never the trotters. Have also had a broken foot and they gripped like a cast and I never missed a day out. Neil

Re: Muck Boots
I too had the Grubs boots with the vibram sole. Mine lasted about a year at most till the sole came right off. I now use the superlite field wellies but they can be slippy at times too, especially on wet stones. They're a nightmare trying to cross the river!
I now have lace up boots and gaiters. My only regret is that I didn't go this way first day. I'd have saved my self a fortune!

Re: Muck Boots
I own a pair of Derwent Muck Boots and so far I am quite happy. Terrain is rocky over here but after 6 months of use I did not notice an abnormal wear of the soles. Maybe I am just lucky
Re: Muck Boots
The ones I had lasted about six months before they split (upper and sole) but very comfortable and worm.upper cracked within a few months.
