My vet charges £14.00 per pup for docking & dew claws. I do the microchipping myself. Another vet about 40 mins away charges £12.00 per pup, but does not do the microchipping at all.
Richard, is Newport Pagnell too far for you as I know of a vet there that docks @ £10.00 per pup plus microchipping.

Hi Breezybrook
No Newport Pagnell is closer to me than where my friend has being going to at Chipping Norton, it is only about 35mins away.
Thanks
Rich

Breezybrook; does your vet countersign your docking paperwork? The law says only a Vet or Vet nurse under the Vets supervision should chip for the purposes of docking legislation and that the Vet concerned must sign the docking paperwork. Some vets may be happy to countersign if the owner is a trained implanter though that is a grey legal area. Just want to make sure you're safe from any anti-docking touble makers!
This from the 'Pet Detect' microchipping website FAQ's
I've been asked to microchip docked puppies - am I allowed to do this or does it have to be a vet?
17 June 2010 - The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has advised us today that only vets or VN's under supervision may microchip docked puppies. Unfortunately there was was some misinformation circulated which was incorrect. If you have any questions relating to docking please call the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons - 0207 222 2001 - and ask for 'Professional Conduct'. You can give your details or remain anonymous. They are very helpful.
OP; Good luck finding a docking vet. I go a long way.....but not that far! £40-50 seems to be 'the going rate' to include docking, dew claw removal, paperwork and microchipping though I'm told some are charging a lot more (one client said I need to put my prices UP!

Re: Tail Docking & Dew Claws Etc.
We pay £20 for chipping and docking, at £49 the vets ripping you off. I would look else where, the law states that the pup has to be chipped if docked, but it doesn't have to be the same vet for both. If a vet says they have to do both they are pulling a fast one, most say they will only do one with the other later when the pups older but to say they have to by law is a lie.
If you sell a docked pup, make sure the new owner signs to say that they understand by law they have to get the pup chipped by 3 months of age. We have it done along with the first jab, just to make sure things are sorted but its up to each breeder to do so as they see fit.

If it was easy it wouldn't be so much fun.

The law only states that docked pups should be microchipped before they are 12 weeks old. So technically I sell the puppy unchipped at 8 weeks old and then it is the duty of the new owner to get it chipped. I then place a microchip in it free of charge for the new owner.
This is what I was advised to do by my vet, so I also asked DEFRA and they said it was ok.
