You don't often see a picture of a Setter 'on point' so pleased to get this one of my boy a couple days ago whilst out over the fields.

Do setters point or sett? What was he setting/pointing on?

Leeky - thank you for your compliment.

Dagelle79 - Setters 'set' normally but can be still called 'pointing'. Before guns were invented a net was used and when the Setter (or Pointer) 'pointed/set' the coveys the men would throw the net over both the dog(s) and the birds, get the dog out of the net and then capture the birds that were trapped in the net.
The Countryman's Weekly dated 11th July 2012 has a very good article in it on Setters from Mainland Europe.
Likewise The Field magazine of August 2012 also has a good article on Setters in the UK.

Hi baxters mum,
Nice to hear from another Setter owner on this forum. I have a few friends who have Gordons - lovely dogs.
Went on a very good Field Working/Training Day down South some years ago and it was a lovely friendly day over the fields. All the Setter breeds were there except English and just one Pointer.
