What a load of tripe!

Post by Strathcraig »

I don't want to get into feeding raw entirely, kibble is much more convenient and seems to be doing the job fine...

I'm told that tripe is a fantastic top up though and I wondered:

A) Is it ok for me to mix tripe with the like of csj champ? Probably just once a week, not every meal.
B) If feeding kibble and tripe together isn't ok in one meal, could I replace one meal a week with the equivalent in tripe?

I won't be going BARF, just that the old boys seem to like tripe and have recommended it.

Thanks in advance!

i know people that add minced green tripe to their dogs food in the shoot season to add a bit more nutrients & fat.

i dont think you'd need it in the summer.

Plenty of people do add tripe to dry biscuits, however I believe doing so can increase the chances of bloat.

I always feed tripe on its own, but add raw meat to the kibble ,dogs seem to do well off it.

We will add tripe to the kibble if the dog needs a boast as feeding to much kibble goes straight through them. Never had any probs doing this

I feed tripe separate to kibble in the shooting season, Will give it to the dogs for breakfast, Then usual kibble for tea and depending on how hard a day will add fresh veg and chicken wings ..

My dog gets kibble mostly, but if where doing a long mountain day, he gets a big lump of tripe mixed in, and the same the morning before we go. Id feed raw all the time, but kibble is so much easier and he does well on it (now . . . .) its just I like to 'know' hes full of tripe if the day could be a long one!

Just to add, i think the issue with mixing tripe and kibble together, is they digest at different rates, so i think the meat is quicker than kibble, therefore not all kibble is digested or something like that?? Im sure someone will know better, personally ive not found it to be a problem :)

Me neither, have always mixed the two to a greater or lesser extent depending on work load. We eat mixed foods which digest at different rates.
