Best budget kibble? CSJ champ?
In your opinion, what is the best budget kibble?
I am talking less than £25 per 15kg.
I currently feed Simpsons @ £30 odd per sack, but have been recommended the CSJ Champ! at £11 odd per sack... I emailed CSJ and was told it contains 33% meat... quite a high percentage and higher than the Simpsons... is it worth a go?
http://www.csjk9.com/productcart/pc/vie ... category=6
Wheat, Beef & Lamb Meal, Maize, Chicken Fat, Chicken Liver, Unmolassed Beet Pulp, Alfalfa, Salmon Oil, Salt, Yucca Schidigera
I don't need to change foods - no issue with price of the Simpsons, but if there are others around which are good for cheaper, a change would be worth it.

Re: Best budget kibble? CSJ champ?
I have tried a few brands of food but have found CSJ very good. All mine are on CSJ champ and have been for about 2 years, I do give some raw tripe during the shooting season but other than that just the CSJ. I find the dogs are alert, shining coats and have good solid muck. I have also got my litter of pups on the junior champ. IMO I find CSJ good value for money, althouth I have been told it is going up a little soon to about £12 per 15kg bag and at present I pay £11.50 (pennys that won't break the bank
) and the junior is £14.50 for 16kg.

Just waiting for the end of the month to move my pup onto adult food.
Have a bag of Green Special, gluten free. Think it's around £8 a bag so see how she gets on with it.

Re: Best budget kibble? CSJ champ?
We use (hi lost version) of this currently for 5 dogs 3 spaniels a lab and a lurcher
And then use Arden grange for 2 other Spaniels and we spend about
£89 per month with no delivery
However after taking advice from Judy it appears I can feed all 7 a better product for if the maths is right
the same money if I switch to their better lamb and rice product
So if it suits the 2 with dodgy tums then that's where we will be going
Thanks Judy

Re: Best budget kibble? CSJ champ?
Have recently moved my gang of 6 from a rather expensive hypo allergenic Lamb & Rice food (£25/€30 per 15Kg bag, a privately milled operation) to the Green Special Gluten free food with absolutely no adverse effects in fact 2 of my bitches had visibly started to lose condition on the original food much to my bemusement & annoyance.TG-ZAC wrote:

Spoke of this issue to a well known & highly respected fellow Cocker man who advised that in his experience the Green Special supplemented with some raw tripe/mince was as good a product as was currently available. Additionally the price difference is quite significant to say the least so collected 5 bags when I was over the water earlier this week.
As a matter of interest who manufactures the Green Special as this information does not appear on the bag itself ?

It's not a bad food by any means. I feed my old labrador on 'That'll do' and looking, feeling and smelling the food it appears better quality for a £1 or so more. The spaniels are on the CP21 which the main ingredient is salmon and they thrive on it
Re: Best budget kibble? CSJ champ?
I have Scally on CSJ complete tripe
Tripe (26%), Rice, Maize, Beef Meal, Chicken Fat, Alfalfa, Full Fat Linseed, Peas, Yeast, Salmon Oil (source of omega 3 fatty acids), Salt, Mannan Oligosaccharides (1,400mg/kg), Glucosamine (1,000mg/kg), Milk Thistle, Seaweed, Yucca Schidigera, Blackcurrant, Green Lipped Mussel (100mg/kg), Kale, Beetroot, Rosemary.
Analytical Constituents
Protein 22.0%
Fat Content 13.0%
Crude Fibre 3.0%
Crude Ash 8.0%
£20 for a 15 kilo sack from my local kennels. She was on Arden Grange (too long a story of how it came about) she is a different dog on it, calmer and has gained weight and filled out, still brim full of energy and poos are solid. Mind you all of that could just have coincided with her growing up a bit......
The rest are on AG at the moment but won't be when the pallet I'm sharing with some mates is coming to an end, too expensive for me now.
It does make me smile a bit though, we all look for a decent food for our dogs yet even with the strict regulations we don't know what goes in our own grub apparently. I have to say my backs been a bit better lately though......
