SLUGS!

Hello! My delightful 14 week lab pup has revealed herself as a disgusting slug slurper. I think she got at least three this morning before I realised what she was up to, she was wormed last week with panacur, does anyone know whether this will cover her??

Not good, lung worm is the principle thing to worry about and secondly, slug bait is poisonous to dogs, so if a slug has just eaten some or she is picking up dead slugs which have been poisoned then you could have a problem although the pup may not ingest enough to kill her.

No slugs please, we're British!

Edited to add Milbemax is the only wormer which has any effect on lungworm. And, I think Advocate spot on??

Advocate spot on is licensed to treat lungworm, but it's a prescription only job.

Advocateis the only product licenced to prevent lungworm. Both Milbemax and Panacur can treat it. At this stage Advocate would be the safest and most effective for you. If you have seen your vet recently they probably won't want to see her again.

My cocker Scylla also did this as a pup. Anot healthy and very discusting. :20: :20: She was especially fond of the brown murder kind outside work. I find them disgusting a the thought of slimy slug puppy kisses didn't appeal so i'm afraid i was' t overly pedagogic when sve was about to slup one down. I resorted to frantic nononooooo plus some other wordless screetching.

Aww man, looks like another phone call to the vets and a trip out to pick something up! Poison should not be a problem, she picked them up in the parks behind the house while out for a walk.. the only garden within a 7 mile radius is mine and I use the term 'garden' very loosely!

Thanks for the help :-D

Oh nooo, the joys of puppyhood mine went through the exact same “slug-snacking” phase too! I swear labs will eat literally anything that moves (or doesn’t). I rang my vet in a panic and they said the same lungworm is the main concern, not the slugs themselves. Advocate spot-on kept things under control after that.

These days I just do a quick garden check before letting her out, especially after rain apparently the slime buffet gets pretty busy at night. Puppies… they sure keep us on our toes (and slightly grossed out)!

One of my Cockers would go out for her pee last thing and would often come back in crunching on a snail. :20: Lovely, not!
