In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Re: Interesting article?
That's the most sensible, down-to-earth description, explanaton and example of positive training methods that i've ever heard. I particularly like her statement "About 95% of what I do is to apply positive reinforcement to create new, functional and acceptable behaviors. About 3% is kissing puppies and rubbing dog bellies, two of my favorite pastimes. The final 2% requires that I do, not what I love to do, but what the dog needs to stay alive"

You just have to get past the translation problems.

Re: Interesting article?
Well, the training exercises in dog training app which I've just released are all build up around positive enforcement and feature the 'forbidden use' of treats for the basic training exercises. I've got a dog in for training at the moment and it took me 4 days to fix it's delivering issues using treats which were given at the correct time - hopefully many gundog trainers will move into the 21st century if they haven't already done so..

Better perspective, maybe. But no gundog perspective. He does, however, inhabit the same state in the US where a so-called triumph of clicker training afield occurred: a handler achieved a "senior hunter title" on her German shorthaired pointer. As to degree of difficulty for attaining such a "title," I'd suggest that getting a ball to go downhill on a crown green might be an apt analogy.Judy wrote:http://www.clickandtreat.com/html/offle ... itions.HTM

A dog is a dog. I was impressed to see that someone has actually had the guts to mention punishment even if it was in a round about way. Its about time we had a balanced view of training again.

A dog's a dog but training a dog positive ain't training a gundog positive.Judy wrote:A dog is a dog. I was impressed to see that someone has actually had the guts to mention punishment even if it was in a round about way. Its about time we had a balanced view of training again.
If you want a "balanced view" of training, look at http://michaelellisschool.com/ - training replete with the e-collar, and Mr. Ellis "has the guts" and enlightenment to mention it ain't used as punishment.

That's all well and good providing the dog moves into the 21st century as well.Contender wrote: hopefully many gundog trainers will move into the 21st century if they haven't already done so..
