Where do you want to go? North, South? How far do you want to drive? How much do you want to spend? Roughly!

Norfolk is pretty good, nice beaches, day trips on the Broads, Great Yarmouth and its Pleasure Beach / fun fair not so far to drive that the kids get bored with being in the car.

Edited to add; and Norwich isn't bad for retail therapy, Castle Museum if the kids are at that stage, giant open air market which can be fun.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Dorset's Jurassic Coast has a lot to offer. Plenty of dog friendly places like Lulworth and Kimmeridge. Swanage and Weymouth are great for the kids too. You've got the tank museum, Monkey World etc. There are a number of clay grounds (purbeck/ Dorchester) and just a bit inland you have the New Forest for bike rides, horse riding, nice pubs etc and theme parks like Paultons Park on slightly further up Marwell.

Another vote for the New Forest, loads of places for dog walking, Bournemouth is close if you want a beach, for towns not to far you have Salisbury or Winchester (greenfields in Salisbury and be chaplins in Winchester are worth a look ). But best of all if you want to stay in the New Forest have a look at Sandy Balls (stop giggling and google it)

South Devon - Torcross - Dartmouth - plenty for young kids to do & very good clean beaches, cream teas are nice too :0D)

Yet another vote for the New Forest. Plenty to do and plenty of places to walk the dogs.

If you like camping I highly recommend Hollands Wood. It's down in Brockenhurst and gives you a good base camp for Lymington, Mudeford and Christchurch to name a few. As recommended by Tunglria you have Paultons Park close by and as recommended by Legger, Sandyballs if you prefer something a bit more comfortable. Best of all, it's not a regimented campsite so you can make it whatever holiday you like, if you want a quiet (except for the road noise) one, camp by the road amongst the trees, if you want a busy one, camp closer by the Forest in amongst the other families. They also run activities for all of you during the day and evenings, guided walks etc.

If you fancy Devon, we usually stay in a little cottage near Chumley called Bealey Court. It is a bit out of the way but has a heated swimming pool, games room, 2 lakes for fishing and a reasonable area for dog walking. You have South Molton nearby which is a nice little village/town or you can head off to the coast, Woolacombe, Saunton Sands etc or even for a walk on Dartmoor. It does involve quite a bit of driving though.
