Wanting muscle mass/weight gain for my bitch.
Hi all , well as you see from subject this post, I wanting my bitch (golden retriever X cocker) to put some more muscle mass/weight on. Shes very fit toned muscle but just abit too lean wanting to build her up for up coming season. Does anyone know of anything could help me or what feed her, vitamins, powders etc... I do weight training myself and use protein drinks but i've marked these out and a no no as was not sure if dogs stomach could take it and process it correctly.
Be great hear any answers.

Minced beef, swimming, thick cover, uneven ground and uphill retrieves.

Weight gain -- feed more
Muscle gain -- exercise more
You already know that from your weight training.

Nice one bill lol, I'd invest in a treadmill if I was you mate. Very steady trot at about 7kmph for about half hour on a gentle incline thrice a week it worked for me. Make sure you feed her good raw green tripe or beef or lamb with plenty fat in as fat has twice the calorific value than carbs or protein and dogs use fat in a different way than we do. I also put on some swimming shorts and walk through the sea or the river up to me tits with the dogs swimming along side for about half hour. You'll already know that good rest is as important as good training as well mate so don't burn her out. Age is also a key factor so plan your regime carefully with this in mind and remember not one dog is the same so wat works for one might not for another

Investing in a treadmill might be a bit much if you're not competing. I've done all mine by doing trotting alongside a bike, must be trotting though, not running

How is she in the kennel? Does she pace around back and forwards? If she does you might find excercising her on treadmills, bikes, swimming etc, might have the opposite result. She might already be getting too much excercise regarding walking etc. It does burn it off them. Try putting an obstacle in the run of her kennel like a bench. You might well find that's all she needs as long as she's on a good nutritional feed but at the end of the day if she's fit and healthy & fit for purpose & worm free, then what more do you need.Gazza.H wrote:Hi all , well as you see from subject this post, I wanting my bitch (golden retriever X cocker) to put some more muscle mass/weight on.
