tin of tuna or raw egg?

Post by springer-spaniel »

Do I give my dog a tin of tuna or a raw egg? Or both to make his coat nice and shiny? Also could this be the difference between winning or losing my local show?

Mine regularly have tinned sardines or mackerel - just because they like them; cheapest supermarket brand and either tomato sauce or oil. The GSP also always gets salmon skin if I have salmon and might even have been known to have some of the fish too ;) He did used to be fed on a salmon and rice kibble and he certainly always had a fabulous coat.

I have never fed them tuna - not only too expensive but also higher levels of mercury and I have never intentionally fed raw egg. Having never entered either in any show I cannot say whether this dietary consideration would make the difference between winning or not

My views are that condition is something that should be part of the dogs appearance generally and is arrived at by keeping the dog correctly fed and in working condition as a matter of course, not just a few days before a show. I would imagine, as much as I abhor dog shows, that a good shampoo and conditioner would be far better for superficial purposes.

I believe that coat condition is an indicator of general condition, a healthy dog will have a healthy coat..

Only if you can afford to feed a dozen eggs a day.

This is not 100% true. A raw egg here and there has great health benefits to a dog. (But one won't make the coat shine)
