New pup

Post by cselley »

Hi all, not been on this for a while but I'm back for some advice. This time it's about bringing a new pup into a household that has a dog already. I have a 3 yr old male gsp already and have recently brought home male number 2. At 11 weeks he's a little small but growing fast and very lively as expected. My first query is about bad habits, the pup Beau is obviously very playful towards older dog Bailey, as dogs do, he's nipping at Bailey to make him play with him which is fine? At what point should I stop this or is ok as long as it doesn't turn nasty?

Just leave them to sort themselves out, they will be friends before you know it. The pup may get told off for getting ahead of himself (by the older dog) and he will soon learn his boundaries. Let things be. Fiddling with the dogs sorting themselves out is pointless and counter productive.

Oh i get that these two will be fine, as long as this behaviour doesn't cause problems with other dogs. I guess he'll learn either way.
