rapeseed oil

Post by Kells »

Would there be any nutritional value adding rapeseed oil to my dogs kibble. Salmon oil is popular and i was just wondering would rapeseed be of similar value?

Rapeseed oil is good for your dog, it has omegas 3 6 and nine, you wouldn't notice your dog lacking anything but it has been proven to help joints and prevent early onset arthritis improve eyesight and intelligence.
A lot of dog food contains these oils already

Hence my comment, the omegas as far as I'm aware can come from several sources.
Wheatgerm oil and Linseed oil along with many others could be added as a nutritional supplement, my point being is the dog lacking these in its food already and how ever would you supplement the food?

The dogs skin is a bit dry round the eyes and i was just wondering would the rapeseed oil help. Its is also less expensive than salmon oil which is recommended to improve the skin

Could be sarcoptic mange unless you've had the dog hunting in nasty stuff and the dogs got eye damage from that? I'd take the dog for a quick check up and get them to do a skin scraping to be on the safe side. Is the dog rubbing it's eyes with it's paws at all or are there any patches anywhere else like the dogs ears, belly or inner thighs?

We usually suspect mites if we see dogs with dry skin around the eyes come into the rescue.

I know that Andrew, just my sense of humour! I agree with Rascal, it could be the first signs of sarcoptic mange or vigourous hunting.
