Yes there are a few breeding Springers which don't look like Cockers and vice versa.

FTCh Cleeburf Bramble. Seen a 6 month old bitch owned by Tom Skelly. That thing is a strong as a bull and would put a hole in a brick wall!

Reading a post on Facebook yesterday where a kennel in Devon was breeding ESS from KC Reg parents but not registering the pups (personal choice so long as it is clear to prospective owners) but it was the reason for not doing the KC Reg that got me. The comment was more or less 'KC Reg is useless, there are a couple of KC Reg Springers in the village that are the size of GSDs' The village is Buckfast if anyone wants to find these giants of the breed.

I saw the article in the shooting times last week I wonder how the old type of spaniel would do in a trial up against the modern ESS

it gets debated on here every so often and goes round and round in circles. The difference between 'old' and 'new' is more in people's heads than in the world.

Alice thanks for that i was reading this and didnt know what to reply.here in ireland im sick of lads debating about old/new type springers.small dogs wont last the full day hunt ect ect.i got said to me by a [know all]about cockers.cockers are to small to last the day hunting.my reply.how do you know have you shot over them.[his reply]no but i just know.i just laugh and walked away.most dogs on full tilt have 4-5 hours hunting in them.iv yet to see a dog what i call all day [8 hours hunting] keep going full tilt with out lagging for that length.maybe their out their but i havent seen them yet.unless you have a plodder.iv seen big springers burn out and seen small springers burn out.its not the size of the dog its the fight in the dog.i dont care what size they are once they can hunt and hit cover hard. The only down fall to the small springer/cocker is waterfouling after along days hunt the cold hits them pretty hard

days on a driven shoot, is broken up between drives, plus you will stop for lunch, in my opinion the care of the dog in these breaks can really contribute to the length of time the dog can perform, also the stamina of the dog and its diet. The cold getting into the dog can vary in live out or live in dogs .
