A suitable ESS stud?

Post by MontyJ »

Hi, Im wanting to find out what ESS stud is recommended.

The bitch to be mated is an excellent retriever, easy to work with, soft but not overly so, pacey & stylish, very nice in the rushes etc with a nice low action
Bad points are that she needs a lot of game & goes best on scent, also when faced with heavy cover she slows down, lacks a wee bit of drive in heavy cover.

So a stud dog that throws hard hunting pups that doesnt need a pile of game to get going???

Something with Halaze hickory of Edgegrove in it, steadroc sker or saturns spirit or laganmill lines. Hollydrive theo? The Irish lines are often the best in cover, they will not tolerate a 'pretty' dog that doesn't bash the cover.

Samsir Babler, Saturn spirit, layson bossy knickers, Helmsway hellraiser all very good cover dogs
If it was easy it wouldn't be so much fun.

Rothievale Medlar of Edgegrove fits the bill (Helen is too modest!) by Halaze Hickory of E and running at the Champs in January.

Helmsway Hellraiser is a dog I've only seen in the flesh but not running, he is a lovely looking animal to my eye. Made up in two trials so can obviously do the business end as well as the looks. Would be high on my list of potential studs.
