Darn Socks

Seasons Greetings to all. 
Having bought myself a good pair of shooting socks I am disappointed to see that after wearing them for a few times they are wearing thin above the heel ankle area and nearly holed in one area.
The wife says it is because they are all wool and the rubbing from my boots causes the wear. Do other People have this problem. The socks are reinforced at the toe and heel but could do to be reinforced higher up.
Any advice.
