Are docked tails getting longer?
Are docked tails getting longer?
As title really. My springer Ozzy is docked but certainly on the longer side. Doesn't bother me as it's left him with a nice white tip (maybe was the intention) and doesn't look out of control like a full tail can sometimes look.
But hardly a day goes by without someone feeling the need to comment along the lines of, Oh, isn't his tail long with a disapproving look!
So is it becoming a trend for longer tails? Or maybe just the difference between trial bred dogs and purely working bred dogs? Ozzy's breeder trials.
Now I don't wish him to get injured but do they need docking as short as some are?

Hmm, even I think it looks quite long in this picture!
Gotta love him though.

Re: Are docked tails getting longer?
no to me thats just right. To the hock on the back leg.it makes them look flashier also.nothing worse then a stump of a tail
Re: Are docked tails getting longer?
My springer is the same as yours. If I didn't have the docking certificate from the vet, I would never have believed she'd been docked. It Doesn't bother me though.

It's better than nothing. GSP's are also now sporting mid length tails.
Re: Are docked tails getting longer?
Looks about the same as my pup's tail, complete with white tip.
Re: Are docked tails getting longer?
Same as Taff's Ben, they are getting longer
Re: Are docked tails getting longer?
Longer than my pups but he was done in Ireland which might be the difference
Re: Are docked tails getting longer?
Just my personal preference, I don't like to see the longer tails.

Re: Are docked tails getting longer?
I have two spingers and a cocker,
all were docked leaving two thirds on and one third off by the same vet, the tails all look different lengths in regards to each dog. I think the over short docking can lead to arguments about the aesthetics rather than what I consider the true purpose of a working dog having a docked tail, my dogs have never suffered tail injuries so I am more than happy with the length of their tails,
