Some dogs can move to the real thing with no mouthing and enthusiasm with ease. Others may need to be worked gradually to a mouth full of game similar to having a dog adjust to gun fire. If that is the case, pull a sock or panty hose over a fur dummy and progress by tearing holes in the covering to expose the fur so the new sensation is gradual for the dog. From there, rinse and repeat for the feathered dummy. Keep the retrieves short and sweet so you can encourage and guide the dog. Allow breaking if you read that the dog requires added incentive to pick up the unusual dummies. Make it fun !
