Things that make you go"Grrrrrrr"!!

Post by Dawnrazor »

I went to Penrith with Mrs and Jnr on Wednesday last week, both were on half term, we went into John Norris and looked at some fishing tackle, in a display cabinet there was an old Abu Cardinal spinning real, it was in fair nick, the reason for my interest was that I begged and pleaded for this same reel as a young teenager and got one for my Christmas, I only had a short time as I didn't take to pike fishing as I thought I would, a dyed in the wool fly Fisher I'm afraid!! I looked at the price tag.......£200!!! Bloody hell, I swapped mine for 5 rabbit purse nets worth about a tenner......Grrrrrrrr!!

I remember the Abu Cardinal too. Always wanted one as a kid but never got one either as fly fishing became the only way to fish and still is.

The first with rear drag, my mates and I used to drool over the ABU catalogue in the mid 70's, one's mates mother was Swedish and he used to bring all sorts of lures back over after his summer holiday out there but I could never afford the proper green one and had to make do with the blue much cheaper one which came out a bit later.
All I wanted to make my life complete aged 13 was a proper cardinal reel and a weirauch HW35E. I didn't get either until I was much older and could buy them myself. If there was a crying smilie I would put it here.

Sounds familiar on the gun front Nickheref, however a dear friend who could see my love of fishing got me a Cardinal when I was 11years old, I was very lucky! I still have it and will never part with it. I have a more up to date version now.

I had a hw35, not the "e" which, I think, had a longer barrel? Great air rifle, wish I still had it.

Ooh, airguns. I saved up for a whole year in 1973 ish to buy an air pistol I wanted a Diana but didn't manage to save the five quid in time so bought a GAT gun for three quid. Then my big bro got me a relum Taurus air rifle off his mate a couple of years later, thanks bro. From then on guns of some description have been in my life.
Who remembers the GAT gun ??

Son bought a HW 80 Its so blooming heavy I have to lie on the ground to shoot it accurately! I love plinking but don't live in a suitable place to play otherwise I'd buy myself a girly air gun. My big Brother had a Diana, one of the first guns I fired.

Remember the gat gun very well. Push the end in to cock it. Soon progressed to a webley air rifle then to a Lanber 12 guage over an under. Gave up shooting shorty after to train dogs.

That's the one, highly accurate it could shoot 2ft groups at 10ft :) I had to use my weight to cock it on the floor until I grew a bit then could do it by hand. Seem to remember you got some darts with it too, they sometimes stuck into my polystyrene target but usually didn't :)
