Lovely 2 year old spayed bitch WGR needs a new home

Post by vivthevic »

It is with much sadness that I find I have to re-home Pippa. She has done really well so far this season beating and turning on the whistle and has now picked up and brought to hand several birds. She is ready to go on in a shooting home. However, she has started to go for my older dog and is now making my life difficult as I feel I have to keep them apart. Apparently this is likely to be the reason she was re-homed to me as she seems to have become aggressive to the other dog she was living with- although not the story I was told. She is absolutely fine with all other dogs in all other circumstances. So she must go to an active home with no other dogs. She is spayed. She is 2 yrs and 3 months. If you are interested please PM me. She has to be on a cereal free diet. I can send pics if you are interested. Please contact me on 07720 811477

Take her back to the rescue.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Have you punished the behavior severely to give the dog a chance to change ? A change would help in rehoming since the dog will likely come in contact with other dogs in the shooting field.

I’ve had some experience of aggression in dogs. Punishment, severe or otherwise, will only suppress the behaviour and may even increase it or direct it towards the handler.

Really ! So when an aggressive pup attempts to steal something from an adult dog, and he gets bit, the stealing behavior is only suppressed and he never learns a thing, and in the future, will become more aggressive toward the dog who has taught him a lesson ? Maybe this terrible outcome floats around in the world of positive only 'science' but the real world explains it differently.

So this fellow has no clue ? Lucky he handles only a pack of dogs and not just one, he could have his hands full.

I'm with Naj on this, sorry newf but what you've described isn't about aggression, but social interaction and life rules if you like. I did enjoy the clip though but once again this was not about aggression control, that is done in hound kennels at the breeding stage  and zero tolerance to those that show it there after  ( they don't pass them on to pet homes or rescue  )
IMO offensive dog on dog aggression is either in the dog or its not, even sending it to a home as an only dog, won't stop it being aggressive to others out walking theirs, and possibly creating anxiety aggressive behaviours further a field. Been on the receiving end to many times, might be clouding my judgement, but I'm firmly on the side of hunt kennel men on this issue

With newf on this one. Working on a commercial shoot with 11 dogs in a vehicle, some of these dogs have never met before. I can not afford an aggressive dog ,nor will I tolerate one. Any aggression shown should be nipped in the bud. Its often only insecurity anyway and soon fades out.

I have been to the kennels at Cheveny and have little doubt that you are right Munstyman, a persistent offender would be taken for a walk on its own.

First I would like to compliment Vivthevic for being so honest, direct and complete in the original post about the dog and its dietary complications. It is not often you see such integrity in those trying to rehome dogs. Many would try and gloss over or disguise the problem in an effort to get rid of the dog.

I have had some experience with dog on dog aggression and from the little bit of information provided it does not sound to me like a dog which is crazy to tear other dogs apart. From the sounds of things it took some time to develop the issue in both her first home and the second. This sounds to me like less of a really aggressive dog and more one with very poorly developed canine social skills. It has no ability to negotiate the pecking order, within the pack, that normal dogs do and goes straight to aggression. I wonder if it was an only pup or separated from its littermates too soon? If this is the case I don't think there is any cure (except the houndsman's solution) but the dog may do fine in a home on its own. If my, less than informed, analysis is correct it has no desire to attack strange dogs it just can't share "home" with any because of its personality deficit.

Has it ever displayed any sort of aggression to people? This might indicate a different and bigger problem.

I am embarrassed that I offered advice on handling this dog and don't even know the breed. What is a WGR?Even my google finger did not seem to offer a reasonable answer.
