I am in St. John's, NL and want to ship a puppy from Toronto area. Do I need any special paper work, shots, done on the puppy before shipping?

So, Trigger, somewhat sad to see you've now gone three weeks without a response - particularly shameful given your fellow Canadian Cass came on at the weekend to wish, somewhat injudiciously, forum members a Happy St. Paddy's Day. Therein, perhaps, lies his apprehension in helping you out with shipping advice to his own locale (Ontario): gender confusion issues. See, when Cass imported his pup Jacqueline, er, Jake, from the States, he drove down to get her, er, him and was almost back to the border when he learned he had obtained a puppy dog instead of a, er, girl. Perhaps he will overcome his abashedness to provide you more "focused" shipping advice.

Well given the readership is largely UK based and many will be unfamiliar with protocols of shipping dogs around America or Canada, it's hardly surprising, surely?

Not at all, but as said there are Commonwealthers aboard - Canadians - who are up to speed on the matter. Presumably the original poster found the information s/he needed elsewhere as s/he's not been back. On my end, it was too ripe an opportunity not to take a gentle shot at "Our Cass" over his excursion into gender confusion below the belt, er, below the 49th parallel some years ago.

When I gunned I could always "ride" birds a bit farther than my comrades. Crackerd that was an exquisite shot. Nicely done!!

As for credentials of transport i would say health papers from the local resident Vet would all that would be needed. That was all i ever had when bringing dog from the UK to the USA.

I never looked at this thread as I assumed it was regarding shipping in the UK. Also I know nothing about shipping dogs anywhere. LOL.
