Hello from germany
first i excuse my bad english
we (my 4 1/2 years old Labrador girl
13932890_1131570336931110_3035786088869548599_n.jpg
and i) train since two years with dummys and the most time in the forrest.
Until yet we had done only two nonofficial workingtests...
In June we start our first journey to scotland

and it will be a dream for me to train in this beautiful landscape.
So my Question: is there any gundogschool in the area near around kinlochewe which has one to one lessons? So that my dream can become true?
Or is anybody delighted to make an "international" little training session?
Thank you for your attention and your help
Kind regards Tanja with Khaleesi

Welcome, a fine looking Labrador you have. I am sure you will enjoy Scotland, though depending which part you go to , there might be midges! I don't know about gundog trainers up there as I live in the midlands in England.

Hi Tanja, Welcome to the Forum.
Not sure who your nearest Trainer would be but we have several Scottish members on here and someone will be along soon to help you.

Welcome to the forum. I cannot help you find a trainer at Kinlochewe. It is a beautiful but fairly remote part of Scotland with a low density of people and no gundog training classes that I am aware of. There are plenty of midges though ! Take along a lot of "Skin so Soft" cream ....it often works better as a midge repellent than the purpose made midge repellents.
The Scottish midge is no joke ! They attack in thousands in the early morning and again in the evenings, be ready with the cream or stay indoors when the midges are out.....like the locals often do !

I haven't been up to Scotland for some time, but I am heading up there soon to do some training. I'd forgotten how bad the midges can be. Frantically ordering Avon Skin So Soft now!

Many anglers greatly prefer that cream to any of the "proper" repellents. Some angling shops up here even have Skin so Soft for sale on their shelves alongside the "proper" repellents. I do not know why or how that cream works but it does seem to work although nothing ever keeps the midges totally away !
I used to smear a little of that cream around my dog's eyes when the midges were about during the morning up on the grouse moors... I think it helped the dogs see a bit better . If that was not done the poor dogs could hardly see properly through the midges.

Bill, hereabouts, Skin So Soft also is daubed onto a gundog's noggin and snout, usually Labs when they're working in the water,

to keep the notorious biting "greenhead" flies from chiseling in to extract a blood meal.
Meanwhile, might we steer the newcomer to the Polmaise Gundog Training Clinic, or is Our Robt. even in the same time zone?

Richard claydon is a good guy and very approachable. He's a very knowledgeable gundog trainer, though he may only do Spaniels, I am not sure?
Its 2 hours from Kinlochewe to his place.

Here is his website, give him a call, he will be sure to put you in touch with someone if he's too far away.

MG...... Robert lives about 180 miles away from Kinlochewe. A large part of that journey would be on "Hieland roads" ....it would take about 3 1/2 hours of fairly fast non stop driving to travel the distance.....and then the same going back again.
