Just for a bit of fun...
I’ve always liked to hear local sayings and slang for every day phrases etc, I’m always using them when away from home and have got some strange looks and a few “wtf is he on about”
there seems to be a broad spectrum of folk from across this fair land on here and other lands I believe, I wondered if anyone would like to chip in and post a few and of course the Oxford English Dictionary interpretation.

Here’s a few from down ere in sunny zumerzet

Thee n thy youngun - you and your brother

New fangle- modern technology

Going one - to go home

Me cocker - not a dog breed but a saying for “ my friend”

Thee cus’nt could ee - you can’t do that can you

I look forward to reading a few..

The worried owner takes his sick cat to the vets in a carrier. Before opening the carrier, the vet asks Is it a tom? No, he's in the carrier.

Translation - at home

In Liverpool and many other places, a moggie is a cat but in my home town (10 miles from Liverpool) a moggie is a mouse.

We all know It's raining cats and dogs for a heavy downpour but snooin with moggies (snowing mice) is a heavy infestation of the rodents.

Colourful description for deep water in marsh or a river..."you can stand up and take a drink".

I worked offshore for a few years and came across some great folk, a lot of them from Aberdeen. I learned all about slang there...

"Fit like?" - how are you?

"Abody" - everybody

"The morn" - tomorrow morning

"Braw" - very good
