New puppy straight to kennel or crate trained?

Hi
Picking up a new puppy in a months time
It will be full time in the kennel
Do you think it’s better to start from day one in kennel with a young pup or better to crate train in house first ?

Crate train in house and if possible continue to let the pup live with you.

I have a radio playing, and a knuckle bone to chew, in the colder months I have a lamp on.

I’m with Newf on this. I routinely kenneled my dogs for years but wouldn’t any longer. It’s handy if you’re out working all day but I enjoy their company these days and I’d like to think
that they enjoy mine. When I did keep them in kennels they went in straight away as pups but from a practical point of view it’s beneficial to get them house trained and used to living in the house in case you ever need to keep them in for convalescing or when they’re retired from hunting.

It won't. Put it in another room where you can get some peace from it. Some pups are quicker to settle down than others but you can guarantee the first night will be brutal.

I was horrified to hear a few days ago that a friend of mine and his wife are still taking it in turns to sleep in the kitchen with the 7 month old pup in its crate because it won't settle unless they do! Words failed me

Focus on where you want to get to and not on the first few nights. Another thing, hard as it may seem to do, don't over do the attention during the day so that the pup is already getting use to alone time in the crate. Have something from the breeder ( a piece of vet bedding ) that has the scent of its litter mates/mother in the crate with it. Pre-warn the neighbours and have alcohol in the cupboards
