Hi Guys. I'm new to the forum so thank you for having me. I have an 18 month old Cocker Spaniel which I have been training at a local gundog club since he was 12 week old. He is coming on slowly and at the intermediate level at the moment. He has a lot of drive and energy so would love to eventually get him out in the field working. As this is my first gundog and I have never been involved with any shoots previously I am interested to know how the more experienced handlers went from novice to picking up/flushing on a shoot.

Tell us were you are and I am sure that someone can find a shoot for you to get involved in. It is my opinion that jumping in and learning on the job so to speak (on the right type of shoot of course) is the best way to go.....that is from my experience but I am a jump in and learn to swim kind of a bloke

Thanks Ips. I live in the West yorkshire area so would think there are a few good venues around. Would be great to attend a shoot even if this was at the back to learn the ropes.

God's country, (i was born in yorkshire and although I live in Lancashire I always consider myself a Yorkshireman ) hopefully someone will be able to get you in touch with a shoot and yes there will be lots of shoots in your area , good luck with it
