Puppy food recommendations wanted please

Post by Rocken »

Hi All

Currently weaning some pups and wondering if anyone can recommend a decent quality puppy food. Spent £33 each on bags of puppy feed and my bitch has been on it for several weeks with no problems. Now that the pups are ready for gradually moving on to it I have found the kibbles to be a bit large for them, they are also very hard and do not soak well at all. Going to go and buy an alternative this weekend but the question is, which feed do I go for  ???

I have to admit I'm a raw food advocate myself.

Pup, adult, senior makes no odds. Processed Dogfood is the devil!.... I've had a few whiskys.....

I've a couple of 'ebooks' on raw feeding, pm your email and I'll forward them on.

You'll get as many answers to that one as there are members on this forum, but this may help:

For weaning pups I use beef mince initially (mince your own so you don't get excess fat) and that gives the little ones the idea that there are things out there better than mum's milk. I then move them onto well soaked CSJ Little Champ with a little sprinkle of mince to encourage them to try the new stuff - it usually goes down a treat. Important to remember that if you present the soaked kibble luke warm it is much more palatable than when given cold - mum's milk is warm.
As they get older, the kibble is presented drier until it is just coming out of the bag. Also, always have water available for weaning pups.

We all have our favourites but I have always used Burns Mini Bites for puppies but recently gone onto raw feeding. Amazing what they do with a chicken wing!!
