I think I must stick to my plan.....watch the DL DVD's again and take advice from my local trainers....and remember to enjoy her! But any tips are more than welcome!

Puppy. T minus 1week!
This time next week I should be off to collect my puppy. Excited, yes. But also very nervous. So much to try and get right....so much that could go wrong. So many different top trainers with so many different ways of doing things. I watched one guy at the CLA (name escapes me) who said he uses no whistle with pups until they are 9months old....my david Lisset DVD has him whistling them at a few weeks! The CLA man said concentrate on retrieving with baby spaniels....most people want to get their noses down and cement the hunting.
I think I must stick to my plan.....watch the DL DVD's again and take advice from my local trainers....and remember to enjoy her! But any tips are more than welcome!

Re: Puppy. T minus 1week!
I bet you are excited Vicky. I collected a puppy for a friend from Ian Openshaw at the Game Fair (one of the 9 week old ones he had out at the start of his display) and would have been very happy to have kept him (the puppy that is)!
As far as your new puppy is concerned let her be a puppy, make it safe and make it fun. Build her confidence and instill good habits but primarily your puppy wants to know that good things happen when she is around you.
It's not a race and there will be plenty of time for "training" later - and there are lots of approaches, not just one right one so I wouldn't get too hung up all that.
As you have said - enjoy her (and vice versa).
I look forward to seeing her
Richard

I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with her. I'm having so much fun with Elmo, he makes me laugh every day, especially when he gets the zoomies and does the wall of death around the stables in the evening!

As a handler, its impossible to make your dog perform better than it is, but very easy to make it perform far worse.

Vicky's new dog is a chapess.
Inside every springer, no matter how well trained, is an idiot trying to get out
