Re: Pickers up
Forgot to mention that on one day last season,13 people turned up to pick up and only 9 to beat. The surplus pickers up went home as they didnt want their dogs getting bored. I think they didnt want to join the beating line because they couldnt control their dogs with hundreds of pheasants moving i...

Re: ESS Litter
I'm thinking ahead here. Is anyone planning a litter using Rothievale Medlar, or Murrayeden Appollo or perhaps Halaze Oh Boy as sire around October. That would make the pups ready around febuary? I realise its a bad time to find a pup but my circumstances dictacte. Thanks Just put an add in the sal...

Re: Pup Inoculations.
I advise breeders to sell puppies unvaccinated. The reason is that 2 strain lepto vaccines are not compatible with 4 strain lepto vaccines and this can lead to repeat vaccinations being required. There are also various different opinions on how best to vaccinate a pup so I think it is best to allow...

Pup Inoculations.
Previously when I've had a litter all the pups have been given they're first jab by my vet at around 7 weeks just before going to new homes at 8 weeks. When the new owners have taken the new pup to they're own vets they have all been told that they would have to start the jabs again as the drug &quo...

Re: Labrador COI's
But isn't it a bit of a blunt tool? In theory if you mate two different breeds together they would have a COI of 0% but pups could still be prone to eye and hip problems if both of the parent breeds are affected by these problems as they will both carry genes for them even though they are not relat...

Re: Labrador COI's
Seems to be some fairly strong opinions on this subject!
Good to hear all sides of the argument, particularly from the more experienced breeders.

Re: Labrador COI's
Short answer, no. As I understand it the higher COI ought to produce a litter which is very similar and pups which ought to produce like themselves. Provided both dogs are free from hereditary disease and are strong for the characteristics of the common dog it can only be good. There can be skeleto...

Re: Labrador COI's
This is only my personal feelings . I have been reading a lot about COI recently , and have come to the conclusion I would only breed to a mate that would reduce the percentage . In your case with a Lab you have a lot of choice , why ask for trouble . Mike But is it really asking for trouble? By br...
